Enforcement of Traffic Law<\/p>\n

Even though quite some time has past since the Traffic Law was
\nfirst enforced, I do not see any significant change in the
\ncountry's traffic conditions. Most motorists still blatantly show
\ntheir lack of compliance to regulations even though under the new
\nlaw, anyone who violating them is supposed to face severe
\npunishment.<\/p>\n
The frequent violations committed by many drivers, especially
\npublic transit drivers, cause major problems for other motorists.
\nAmong the most worrying of the bad habits are passing from the
\nleft at high speed and stopping in "no stopping" zones. As a
\nresult, the traffic remains as chaotic as before the new Traffic
\nLaw was enforced.<\/p>\n
The question is whether the punishment of traffic violators is
\nreally effective in teaching them to observe the regulations. Or
\nperhaps the problem really is that the law's enforcement is not
\nconsistent.<\/p>\n
It seems that the way the police handle traffic violations has
\nnot changed despite the new law. That is why we still often see
\nmotorists playing the traditional salam tempel game (passing a
\nbribe while shaking hands) with police officers.<\/p>\n
Earlier, when the new Traffic Law was about to be introduced,
\nmany people expressed concern that it would affect transportation
\nand distribution of goods. Some of them even protested its
\nintroduction.<\/p>\n
In fact, the new law is disappointing because it has done
\nnothing to improve the country's traffic conditions.<\/p>\n
