Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has reaffirmed that subsidised fuel prices will not increase through Eid al-Fitr, despite global oil supply disruptions stemming from Middle East tensions. The government insists national fuel reserves remain secure at 21-23 days' worth, clarifying this is buffer stock with continuous production and imports rather than an imminent depletion timeline.

Jakarta — Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has
reiterated that the price of subsidised fuel will not increase through
Eid al-Fitr, despite global oil supplies being roiled by escalating
conflict in the Middle East.

According to the minister, the government has ensured national fuel
reserves remain in a safe condition, allowing the public to navigate
Ramadan and Eid without concern.

“Clearly for Eid, we must think about Eid first. For this Eid, God
willing there will be no fuel price increase for subsidised products and
our reserves have no problems,” said Bahlil at the Energy and Mineral
Resources Ministry on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

He also requested that the public avoid misinterpreting information
regarding national fuel reserves. According to him, the reserve figures
often cited as approximately 21 to 23 days do not mean supplies will be
depleted within that timeframe.

“Don’t distort this as if 21 or 23 days means it’s all gone. No,
that’s our buffer stock, but supplies keep arriving. We keep producing,
imports keep coming in. So please don’t distort this,” said Bahlil.

Concerns about disruptions to global energy supplies have triggered
panic-buying of fuel not only in several Indonesian regions but also in
numerous countries worldwide.

This phenomenon emerged following escalation of Middle East conflict
between the United States-Israel and Iran, raising concerns about a
prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping lane through
which approximately 20 per cent of global oil trade passes.

Several countries have begun reporting long queues of vehicles at
fuel stations, as the public fears fuel prices will spike or supplies
will be disrupted.
",
