        "content": "<p>Endangered animals under threat<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: Endangered animals in Indonesia are still under<br>\nserious threat due to increasing illegal hunting across the<br>\ncountry, an environmental activist says.<\/p>\n<p>Hardi Baktiantoro, the coordinator of the Pro-Fauna<br>\nenvironment watchdog, said on Wednesday the animals were in<br>\ndanger following the findings on illegal animal trade last year.<\/p>\n<p>He said his team had conducted an investigation into animal<br>\ntrade in Lampung, Bangkulu, Medan, Padang (Sumatra), West<br>\nKalimantan, Papua, North Maluku, Makassar in South Sulawesi,<br>\nBali, Jakarta, Surabaya, Malang, Yogyakarta, Semarang and<br>\nBandung.<\/p>\n<p>The probe confirmed that thousands of protected animals were<br>\ntraded every week via Lampung's Bakauheni seaport to Merak in<br>\nBanten.<\/p>\n<p>The animals included the primate family of  Hylobate<br>\nSyndactilus, Hylobate Sp, and Nycicebus Coucan. They were sold at<br>\nthe Pramuka bird market in Jakarta, but many of them were brought<br>\nto cities in East Java and Central Java. -- Antara<\/p>",
