Embrace successes, ulemas told<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesians should make the best use of the
\ncountry's accomplishments and not destroy them out of
\ndissatisfaction, President Soeharto said yesterday.<\/p>\n
Addressing some 80 Moslem leaders visiting from Kalimantan,
\nSoeharto said that pushing the development pace will not
\nguarantee success. \"We want (development to proceed) fast, but
\nit's not a guarantee of success,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"For instance, we might want to accelerate industrial
\ndevelopment with great domestic and foreign investment,\" he said.
\n\"But this only overheats our economy. And if we force it, just
\nlike a vehicle, it'll break down.\"<\/p>\n
Accompanied by chairman of the Indonesian Council of Ulemas
\n(MUI) K.H. Hasan Basri, the ulemas said a special prayer for the
\nhealth of President Soeharto and other national leaders.<\/p>\n
After the visit, the ulemas and Soeharto said their Friday
\nprayer at the Baitu-Rahiem Mosque inside the Presidential Palace
\ncompound.<\/p>\n
\"We cannot achieve everything all at the same time,\" Soeharto
\nsaid. \"However, we realize that all that has been accomplished is
\nbecause of the participation of the people in general, Moslems
\nand the ulemas in particular.\"<\/p>\n
Later on the day, the ulemas also met with Vice President Try
\nSutrisno, who said that Indonesian Moslems should continuously
\nstrive to improve all aspects of their lives.<\/p>\n
\"With quality Moslems we can build a quality nation,\" he was
