Embezzlement of IDT funds<\/p>\n
The government's good intentions to fight poverty under the
\nLeast Developed Village Program (IDT), as per a Presidential
\ninstruction, could vanish without a trace if no action is taken
\nagainst certain individuals. Individuals who have succeeded in
\nintercepting funds meant for implementation of the program's
\nsecond stage in Ujungjaya, subdistrict Sumur, Pandeglang, West
\nJava.<\/p>\n
The villagers only received 320 chicks, to be distributed
\namong 200 families, instead of the expected Rp 20 million.<\/p>\n
The funds meant to help impoverished villagers had,
\nreportedly, arrived eight months ago. Supposing that one chick
\nwould have cost Rp 4,000, the price of the chicks would have
\namounted to only Rp 1,280,000.<\/p>\n
The incident was duly reported to both the regent of
\nPandeglang and the chief of subdistrict Sumur. But this incident
\nbrought more disappointment to Ujungjaya villagers when only
\nregional officials came to meet with the village authorities.
\nLater, most of the villagers were called in, only to be
\nreprimanded and intimidated by authorities from the village
\nadministration.<\/p>\n
One of the residents who filed his complaint with the
\nPandeglang regional office, got a lashing from the subdistrict
\nchief. The regional administration did not act to benefit the
\nvillagers, on the contrary, it now looks as if nobody can be held
\nresponsible for the disappearance of state funds meant to fight
\ndestitution in poverty stricken villages.<\/p>\n
How is poverty going to be eradicated if the government does
\nnot give an ear to complaints and peoples' aspirations, or, when
\nno legal action is taken to fight corruption among officials.<\/p>\n
