        "content": "<p>Embezzled state money retrieved<\/p>\n<p>JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: The provincial Prosecutor&apos;s Office has<br>\nrecouped Rp 3.2 billion (US$1.3 million) in state money from<br>\ncorrupt officials over the past year.<\/p>\n<p>The Prosecutor&apos;s Office chief, Anthonius Sujata, said local<br>\ncourts trying graft cases have recovered Rp 3.2 billion from<br>\ngovernment officials in Jayapura, Serui, Biak and Merauke.<\/p>\n<p>Merauke holds the record in terms of the amount embezzled. The<br>\nembezzlement of Rp 1.9 billion occurred at the Regional<br>\nDevelopment Bank.<\/p>\n<p>The authorities have confiscated cars, land, houses, a truck<br>\nand Rp 200 million in cash from the prime suspect, Mrs. Wati. The<br>\ncase is still being tried.<\/p>\n<p>Sujata said the usual modus operandi used by the defendants to<br>\nembezzle money was quite &quot;old fashioned&quot;: forging signatures and<br>\nstamps, Antara reported.
