        "content": "<p>Elza now witness in Tommy case<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: Elza Syarief, the lawyer of Hutomo \"Tommy\" Mandala<br>\nPutra, was summoned by police as a witness in an extortion case<br>\ninvolving Tommy, which caused him a total Rp 20 billion in<br>\nlosses.<\/p>\n<p>\"The investigators, thus far, have only questioned me over my<br>\nacquaintance with the suspects,\" Elza told reporters after she<br>\nwas questioned by police.<\/p>\n<p>The two suspects in the extortion case are Abdullah Sidiq<br>\nMuin, the leader of an Islamic boarding school in Kediri, East<br>\nJava and Raden Dodi Sumadi, who is known as Tommy's business<br>\ncolleague.<\/p>\n<p>Elza said that Tommy was asked by both suspects, who served as<br>\nformer president Abdurrahman Wahid's envoys, to provide the money<br>\nin negotiations for a presidential pardon.<\/p>\n<p>Sidiq and Doddy reportedly helped arrange the controversial<br>\nmeetings between Tommy and then president Abdurrahman at<br>\nBorobudur and Regent hotels in 2000. --JP<\/p>",
