Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>The West Jakarta District Court began on Thursday the trial of<br>\nformer world boxing champion Ellyas Pical, who was arrested at<br>\nthe Miles discotheque in West Jakarta in July after allegedly<br>\nselling three ecstasy pills to undercover police.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutor Andi Irma said Ellyas risked a maximum sentence of<br>\n15 years and Rp 150 million fine if it was proven the pills<br>\nbelonged to Indonesia's first world boxing champion.<\/p>\n<p>\"We have sufficient evidence that Ellyas was in possession of<br>\nthree ecstasy pills. Article 59 of Law No. 39\/1947 on drugs and<br>\nArticle 55 of Law No. 22\/1997 on psychotropic stipulate a<br>\nminimum sentence of four years and a maximum 15 years,\" Andi<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Another suspect Lisdiana, who was arrested with Ellyas, was<br>\nalso charged under the same laws.<\/p>\n<p>In their indictment, prosecutors said that Lisdiana entrusted<br>\nthree blue ecstasy pills to Ellyas which he sold to three<br>\nundercover police who nabbed him on July 13. Police arrested<br>\nLisdiana not long after.<\/p>\n<p>A laboratory test at the National Police Headquarters<br>\nconfirmed the tablets were ecstasy pills.<\/p>\n<p>According to prosecutors, the ecstasy belonged to Silvi,<br>\nanother suspect who is still at large.<\/p>\n<p>Ellyas, frequently smiled during the trial and refused to<br>\nanswer questions from reporters before and after. His wife, Rina<br>\nSiahaya, was also present.<\/p>\n<p>Ellyas' lawyer Hamid Hussen said that his client was innocent.<\/p>\n<p>\"I don't want to argue with what the prosecutors have said.<br>\nThe more important thing is to prepare the best arguments for the<br>\nnext hearing,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Hamid said the defense would present a number of witnesses,<br>\nthat would show his client's innocence, including Silvi.<\/p>\n<p>Presiding judge Muljanto decided to adjourn the trial until<br>\nSept. 22.<\/p>\n<p>Ellyas held the International Boxing Federation's super<br>\nflyweight title from 1985 until 1989. After retiring from boxing<br>\nin the early 1990s he began working as a bouncer.<\/p>",
