Naommy, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>Located on the side of a busy road in the elite residential area<br>\nof Simprug, South Jakarta, the Bina Nusantara School was<br>\nofficially opened on Friday for children from middle to high<br>\nincome bracket.<\/p>\n<p>However, the school -- that accommodates students from<br>\npreschool grades through to high school -- still has a social<br>\nobligation to its surrounding community.<\/p>\n<p>\"Bina Nusantara as part of the education system here should<br>\ngive a contribution in solving educational problems,\" said<br>\nMargani Mustar, deputy of Jakarta's intermediate and high school<br>\neducation agency.<\/p>\n<p>As an international school that taught English and was also<br>\nattended by expatriates, the school has the potential to become a<br>\ncross-cultural school.<\/p>\n<p>If the method combining national curriculum and international<br>\ncurriculum can be well-applied, it will be possible for other<br>\nschools to also adopt the learning method.<\/p>\n<p>\"We will help to prepare their human resources and also share<br>\nour experiences with them,\" said Joel Carre, the executive<br>\ndirector of Binus School.<\/p>\n<p>Widia Soerjaningsih, CEO of the school, said they had gathered<br>\na reserve fund to help students from other schools who could not<br>\nafford their educational fees.<\/p>\n<p>\"In the meantime we don't have an internal scholarship program<br>\nfor students but we provide funds to help poor children from<br>\nother schools,\" said Widia to The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n<p>Carre also promised that Bina Nusantara would allow students<br>\nfrom other schools, who were not as fortunate, to use some of the<br>\nfacilities, like the library and the language laboratory.<\/p>\n<p>\"We are too young right now to be able to do that, but as soon<br>\nas we settle, we would welcome students from other schools and<br>\nshare our facilities with them,\" he added.<\/p>\n<p>Margani also told the Post that the city administration had<br>\nrun a pilot project started in October this year to help 320<br>\nstudents from three schools by providing one-year scholarships.<\/p>\n<p>The pilot project was aimed at schools with high dropout<br>\nrates. Margani said the administration has allocated Rp 700<br>\nmillion (US$82,353) for the project. The funds are disbursed<br>\nthrough banks to the schools' accounts.<\/p>",
