Schneider Electric Indonesia says technician certification and training can improve installation safety by ensuring workers apply appropriate standards. Its Electrician Academy 2026 aims to reach about 8,000 participants, with an initial target of certifying around 400 technicians, amid rising demand for skilled labour, including from data centre development.

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Certification of electrical technicians is seen as
one way to support the government’s efforts to improve the safety of
electrical installations by enhancing workers’ skills and ensuring the
correct installation standards are applied.

Ahmad Saiful, Business VP Home Solutions at Schneider Electric
Indonesia, said technicians’ skills needed to be improved in response to
public demand for safe electrical installations that meet standards.
This effort is also part of the electrical industry’s responsibility to
safeguard customer safety.

“What needs to be improved is not just the products, but also the
people who install them. We want to provide electrical technicians with
the knowledge they need to become better certified and apply the correct
installation standards,” Saiful said in an interview in Jakarta on
Tuesday.

Saiful made the remarks at the launch of Electrician Academy 2026, a
skills development programme that encourages electrical technicians to
improve their expertise through training and certification. The
programme’s vision is to transform the electrician’s profession into
that of a skilled electrical expert with standardised competencies.

According to Saiful, applying safety standards requires adequate
technical understanding, both among technicians installing electrical
systems and retailers selling electrical equipment. Retailers also have
a role in informing consumers about products and safety devices suited
to their needs.

He said certification could provide formal recognition of
technicians’ competence while increasing customers’ confidence in the
quality of their work. With these skills, technicians are expected to
expand their employment opportunities and build professional
networks.

Electrician Academy 2026 aims to involve around 8,000 participants in
skills development activities. As an initial step, the company plans for
about 400 technicians to undergo competency certification through
collaboration with relevant parties.

Saiful added that demand for skilled workers was a challenge as the
electrical industry expanded, including through the development of data
centres requiring large electricity supplies. For this reason, skills
development must be ongoing to support installation quality and the
safety of electricity users.

Meanwhile, Martin Setiawan, President Director of Schneider Electric
Indonesia and Timor-Leste, said the company would continue supporting
the technician community through various annual programmes to improve
the skills of electrical professionals in Indonesia.
",
