The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP)\nIndonesia has said that electric buses can help reduce dependence on\nfuel oil.<\/p>\n
\u201cLooking at the context and the energy landscape, as well as energy\nuse and emissions from the transport sector, we conducted a study on\npublic transport because it is one of the most systematic and structural\nsolutions to help us reduce dependence on fuel oil. And this is\naccompanied by the electrification of buses themselves,\u201d said ITDP\nSoutheast Asia Director Gonggomtua Sitanggang in Jakarta on\nWednesday.<\/p>\n
According to him, based on research, land transport is the main\ncontributor to fuel oil consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Land\ntransport absorbs nearly 90 percent of the transport sector\u2019s fuel oil\nconsumption.<\/p>\n
In addition, land transport also contributes nearly 90 percent of the\ntotal greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf energy prices rise, one can imagine how much this contributes or\nhow much cost we incur,\u201d said Gonggomtua Sitanggang.<\/p>\n
For information, President Prabowo Subianto has stated that various\nmodes of transport in Indonesia will in the future switch to using\nelectric power, in line with the government\u2019s efforts to build a green\nand renewable energy system.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will build green energy. Renewable energy. Not to mention trains,\nlater almost all of our vehicles will run on electricity \u2014 our trucks,\nour buses, our cars, our motorbikes,\u201d said Prabowo.<\/p>\n
Prabowo said the development of electric-based transport is part of\nthe direction of national energy development that prioritises green and\nrenewable energy.<\/p>\n
The President also emphasised that railways are an important part of\nsupporting the tourism sector. He assessed that the revitalisation of\nhundreds of railway stations carried out by PT Kereta Api Indonesia\n(KAI) can become a tourist attraction as well as part of the national\ntransformation.<\/p>\n
