Election official found dead<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): An election official reported missing from a
\npolling station in Pelabuhanratu, West Java, last Thursday was
\nfound dead at about 5 p.m. Monday, police said yesterday.<\/p>\n
The body of Ucip Toyib bin Sugandi, 35, was found with his
\nhands tied behind his back with plastic cord, spokesman for the
\nWest Java police Lt. Col. Istanto J. said in Bandung.<\/p>\n
It was found at the foot of Mount Panggang, about three
\nkilometers from the polling station the deceased oversaw, Istanto
\nwas reported by Antara as saying.<\/p>\n
The police had yet to determine the cause of Ucip's death, the
\nspokesman said, but added that it was probably murder.<\/p>\n
The deceased was an elementary school teacher in the holiday
\nresort of Pelabuhanratu.<\/p>\n
Istanto said that Ucip was last seen at about 4:30 p.m.
\nThursday leaving the polling station. His colleagues said he
\nexcused himself to say his sunset prayers. He was never seen
\nalive again.<\/p>\n
The police have questioned Ucip's relatives.<\/p>\n
Violence marred campaigning and voting in several provinces.
\nThe United Development Party and the Indonesian Democratic Party
\nhave alleged widespread fraud. (pan)<\/p>",
