        "content": "<p>A resident from Cimanggu District, Pandeglang Regency, Banten, named\nAmirudin has been found guilty of felling a kecapi tree in Ujung Kulon\nNational Park (TNUK). The 61-year-old man was sentenced to two years\nimprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defendant Amirudin alias Amir has been proven, beyond reasonable\ndoubt, guilty of the criminal offence of participating in the extraction\nof living resources naturally occurring in a nature conservation area,\u201d\nstated the panel of judges at Pandeglang District Court, cited from the\nPandeglang District Court case management system on Wednesday, 11 March\n2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defendant is hereby sentenced to imprisonment for two years,\u201d\nthe court ruling continued.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the prison sentence, he was fined 10 million rupiah.\nShould this fine not be paid, it would be replaced with one month\u2019s\nimprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA fine of 10 million rupiah, with the provision that if the fine is\nnot paid, it shall be replaced by one month\u2019s imprisonment,\u201d read the\ncourt ruling.<\/p>\n<p>The case began in June 2025, when the defendant entered the TNUK area\nin the Kubang Badak Block, Coffee Resort PTN, Section III PTN Area\nSumur, to fell a kecapi tree. The wood was intended to renovate the\ndefendant\u2019s house.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defendant stated that the wood was intended to repair or\nrenovate the roof of the defendant\u2019s kitchen,\u201d read the indictment.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, the defendant asked a witness to fell the tree using a\nchainsaw. After the tree fell, the witness proceeded to cut the timber\ninto several pieces.<\/p>\n<p>While carrying out this activity, park rangers discovered their\nactions. Both immediately stopped their cutting activity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile the defendant and witness Arsana were cutting the tree, park\nrangers from Ujung Kulon National Park arrived and ordered the defendant\nand witness Arsana to cease the activity,\u201d read the indictment.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the defendant\u2019s actions, TNUK reported material losses\nof approximately 504,000 rupiah. The defendant\u2019s conduct constitutes a\nviolation of Article 78 paragraph (5) of Law Number 41 of 1999\nconcerning Forestry, read together with Article 50 paragraph (3) letter\ne concerning Forestry and Article 55 paragraph (1) clause 1 of the\nCriminal Code.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsequently, Ujung Kulon National Park suffered material losses\nvalued at 504,000 rupiah,\u201d the court panel stated.<\/p>",
