Kasim (65), an elderly man, died while assisting in the handling of\nforest and land fires (karhutla) in Rasau Karya Hamlet, Rasau Jaya Umum\nVillage, Rasau Jaya District, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan.<\/p>\n
The man, who worked as a plantation caretaker, was found dead in a\nface-down position while in the midst of firefighting activities. He was\ndiscovered on Tuesday evening (11\/8) at around 4 p.m. local time.<\/p>\n
Prior to his death, he had been carrying out his usual activities and\nwas at the site monitoring the fire situation while also helping to\nprovide logistical support to personnel conducting fire suppression.<\/p>\n
Rasau Jaya Police Chief Inspector Sihar Lumbantoruan, through Kubu\nRaya Police Public Relations Sub-section Head Aiptu Ade, said Kasim\u2019s\npresence at the site was a form of community participation in assisting\nwith forest fire management.<\/p>\n
\u201cBased on the field examination, it is known that Kasim had left the\nplantation around midday to buy food. At that time, his condition still\nappeared healthy. After eating, he returned to the plantation and\nrested,\u201d Ade said on Wednesday (12\/8).<\/p>\n
Some time later, Kasim\u2019s activities were observed again. A colleague\neven saw the victim clearing tree branches around the plantation.\nShortly afterwards, the plantation owner, Ahmad, came over to Kasim, who\nwas sitting down.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt that time, Kasim complained of nausea and the urge to vomit,\u201d Ade\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Ade continued that Ahmad had offered him a drink and suggested that\nKasim go home to rest. However, Kasim declined the suggestion. Ahmad\nthen left Kasim to inspect the adjacent plantation.<\/p>\n
At around 4 p.m., Ahmad found Kasim already in a face-down position\nand not moving. He then shouted for help. Ahmad\u2019s shouts were heard by\nthe joint forest fire response team who were not far from the\nlocation.<\/p>\n
Personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), National\nPolice (Polri), National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Fire\nDepartment, Manggala Agni, and the Fire Care Community (MPA) immediately\narrived at the scene. Kasim was then evacuated to Tuan Besar Syarif\nIdrus Regional General Hospital in Kubu Raya for medical assistance.\nHowever, his life could not be saved.<\/p>\n
\u201cBased on the examination by the on-duty doctor at Tuan Besar Syarif\nIdrus Regional General Hospital, the victim was pronounced dead. From\nthe medical examination results, the victim is suspected to have died\nfrom a heart attack,\u201d Ade said.<\/p>\n
Rasau Jaya Police are still conducting an investigation to ascertain\nthe sequence of events before Kasim was found dead. Several witnesses\nhave been questioned, including people who were in the vicinity before\nthe victim was discovered.<\/p>\n
After being pronounced dead, Kasim\u2019s body was taken to the family\nhome in Bina Karya Hamlet, Rasau Jaya Satu Village, Rasau Jaya District,\nat around 5:20 p.m. local time.
