        "content": "<p>Eight new police companies set up<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The city police established eight new companies<br>\nyesterday to back up police operations in the fight against<br>\nsurging crime in Greater Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>\"The ability of the new companies is in making quick maneuvers<br>\nin handling crowds, search and rescue and limited antiterror<br>\nmovements,\" Jakarta Police Chief Maj. Gen. Noegroho Djajoesman<br>\nsaid at the induction ceremony for the units.<\/p>\n<p>Four of the companies are called Perintis Shabara squads with<br>\n360 personnel, Noegroho said, adding that the other four<br>\nconstituted backup companies with 328 officers.<\/p>\n<p>The companies, under the city police on-the-alert unit, are<br>\noutfitted with special abilities, ranging from securing the scene<br>\nof crimes to pursuing criminals.<\/p>\n<p>\"The officers selected as members of the companies are very<br>\ngood at the very least in driving vehicles and shooting,\" Col.<br>\nArthur Damanik, chief of the police on-the-alert unit, said.<\/p>\n<p>The group will be divided into smaller teams for their<br>\nactivities. \"The teams could be very mobile and active in giving<br>\nresponse to report of crimes,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Noegroho said he the new companies would boost police<br>\nprofessionalism in executing their duties.<\/p>\n<p>\"We want to lift the quality, not just the quantity.\" (edt)<\/p>",
