        "content": "<p>The escalation of cyber threats affiliated with the Chinese\ngovernment is increasingly alarming, triggering a global alarm and\nprompting international cyber security agencies to call for massive,\nconcrete action to strengthen digital defences. The UK\u2019s National Cyber\nSecurity Centre (NCSC) is leading this global movement, urging\norganisations worldwide to unite. This step is taken to sever the secret\nnetworks (botnets) often used by hackers from China to carry out their\ndigital espionage. As a concrete measure, the NCSC has officially\nreleased new mitigation guidance. This guidance was compiled jointly\nwith industry players and 15 international partners from eight allied\nnations, including the United States via the FBI, Australia, Canada,\nGermany, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and Spain. According to\nthe NCSC report, Chinese hackers exploit vulnerabilities in everyday\ninternet-connected devices, such as home routers and smart home devices.\nThese devices are then compromised to form secret networks. Through\nthese stealth networks, the cyber actors target critical sectors\nworldwide. Their mission is clear: to steal sensitive data and maintain\nlong-term illegal access within their victims\u2019 systems. \u2018In recent\nyears, we have seen a shift in tactics from China-based cyber groups.\nThey use these networks to hide malicious activity, allowing them to\nevade legal consequences and accountability,\u2019 said NCSC Director of\nOperations Paul Chichester. The guidance, published jointly with the\nFBI, also warns that detecting these Chinese cyber attacks is now far\nmore complicated, as the hackers move very quickly to erase their\ndigital footprint immediately after their mission is accomplished. This\nsituation was reinforced by NCSC Chief Richard Horne, who warned the UK\nand its allies to prepare for a surge in state-sponsored cyber attacks,\nboth direct and indirect, from countries like China, Iran, and Russia.\nHorne revealed that his agency handles an average of around four\nnational-scale cyber incidents every week. Ironically, the most damaging\nattacks are now predominantly commanded by state actors, rather than\njust ordinary criminal cyber gangs. In response to this increasingly\nreal threat, the UK government has reportedly approached several\nartificial intelligence giants to collaborate on building a\nnext-generation AI-based defence system to mitigate attacks on vital\nnational infrastructure.<\/p>",
