        "content": "<p>Cairo (ANTARA) - Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Sunday\n(2\/8) emphasised the importance of continued efforts to prevent further\nescalation in the region during a telephone conversation with US\nPresident\u2019s special envoy Steve Witkoff.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign\nAffairs, during the conversation Abdelatty affirmed that political and\ndiplomatic solutions remain the only viable path towards achieving\nregional security and stability.<\/p>\n<p>Abdelatty called for enhanced international and regional efforts to\nmanage the various ongoing crises in the region and to support\nde-escalation initiatives. According to him, such steps would help\ncreate conditions conducive to the resumption of dialogue while\naddressing the root causes of the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>On the same day, Abdelatty also held separate telephone conversations\nwith the foreign ministers of Qatar, Iraq and Kuwait to discuss\ndevelopments in the region and efforts to ease tensions.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the US military launched several waves of attacks against\nIran, stating that the actions were a response to Iranian attacks on\nships in the Strait of Hormuz and aimed at weakening Iran\u2019s ability to\nthreaten commercial shipping.<\/p>\n<p>Iran subsequently retaliated by launching missile and drone attacks\ntargeting US military bases and facilities in Jordan, Kuwait and\nBahrain.<\/p>\n<p>On the same Sunday, Abdelatty discussed the latest developments in\nthe Gaza Strip as well as efforts to advance the implementation of the\nUS-proposed peace plan for the territory during a telephone conversation\nwith Nickolay Mladenov, the high representative for Gaza of the US-led\nPeace Council.<\/p>\n<p>US President Donald Trump said on Thursday (30\/7) that the Peace\nCouncil had reached an agreement on the \u201ccomplete disarmament\u201d of Hamas\nand other armed groups in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>Basem Naim, a member of Hamas\u2019s political bureau, said on Friday\n(31\/7) that Hamas had approved the latest version of the roadmap for the\nsecond phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza following intense\nnegotiations.<\/p>\n<p>However, Hamas stipulated that any arrangements concerning weapons\nmust be accompanied by a complete cessation of aggression, the\nwithdrawal of Israeli forces from the territory, and progress on\nreconstruction.<\/p>",
