        "content": "<p>Egypt urges Indonesian support for Arab summit<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Egyptian Ambassador to Indonesia Mahmoud Osman<br>\ncalled on Indonesia yesterday to give its support for the Arab<br>\nsummit, which will be held in Cairo this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The Moslem world, within which Indonesia is the largest, as<br>\nwell as the Third World, should exhibit support by way of<br>\nreflecting solidarity with the Arab world,&quot; Ambassador Osman was<br>\nquoted as saying by Antara yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The Arab world is an organic entity, inseparable from the<br>\nlarger scheme of the Third World,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The ambassador held a press conference yesterday to explain<br>\nabout the Cairo summit which is held to forge Arab solidarity<br>\nfollowing the election of Israeli hard-liner Benjamin Netanyahu.<\/p>\n<p>Netanyahu&apos;s victory with an election platform hostile to any<br>\npeace with Palestinians and Israel&apos;s Arab neighbors threatens to<br>\nunravel the peace negotiations painfully established by the<br>\nprevious Labor government.<\/p>\n<p>The Egyptian envoy said one of the summit&apos;s objectives is to<br>\nstrengthen Arab countries&apos; commitment to pursuing the peace<br>\nprocess. &quot;The change of government in Israel should not change<br>\nthis reality because peace has reached a point of no return.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Although the Cairo summit reflects primarily the sense of<br>\nanxiety about the prospects of the peace process in the Middle<br>\nEast, it is my view that equal interest and involvement should be<br>\ndemonstrated by the Islamic world and the Third World,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Any obstacle to the peace process will inevitably have<br>\nnegative effects, one way or another, on the Islamic world,<br>\nespecially where the fate of Jerusalem, regarded by Moslems as a<br>\nholy site, is concerned, Ambassador Osman said.<\/p>\n<p>He praised Indonesia&apos;s firm stand, as recently reiterated by<br>\nMinister of Foreign Affairs Ali Alatas, that Jakarta will not<br>\nopen diplomatic ties with Israel until after the Palestinian and<br>\nMiddle East issues are fully resolved.
