Education only for the rich?<\/p>\n

College enrollment is now under way and it is surprising to
\nnote that several favored state higher educational institutes are
\nimposing very high fees for admission.<\/p>\n
Ironically, these soaring rates are charged as ordinary people
\nstrive to make ends meet, while their children are in bad need of
\nlow-cost education.<\/p>\n
Only the elite can afford to pay Rp 50 million to Rp 100
\nmillion for college education, given the difficulties being faced
\nby the greater part of Indonesians today. Is the nation's
\neducation only for the rich?<\/p>\n
What about members of the younger generation who are
\nintellectually more capable but financially constrained? Aren't
\nthey needed to design the nation's technology so that it doesn't
\nlag too far behind that of other countries?<\/p>\n
In my view, the government should take tough action by
\nimposing punitive measures if necessary, because education is the
\nright of all citizens and the state should have the aim of
\nenhancing the nation's intelligence.<\/p>\n
