        "content": "<p>Editor quits over apology<\/p>\n<p>MALAYSIA: The editor of a Malaysian newspaper has resigned after<br>\ndisputing upper management&apos;s decision to publish an apology for<br>\nrunning a story about an alleged assassination plot targeting<br>\nPrime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and his deputy.<\/p>\n<p>Mahathir has said that he had never been informed of such a<br>\nplot, reported by The Sun newspaper Christmas Day, and said that<br>\nsuch reports could hurt the economy if Malaysia is perceived as<br>\nrife with terrorism. He said that the newspaper should have<br>\ninformed police.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, The Sun published a front-page apology to<br>\nMahathir and his deputy, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. It said that<br>\nfurther scrutiny showed that the story had been based on<br>\nunfounded allegations and should never have been published.<\/p>\n<p>Sun editor Andy Ng told The Associated Press on Friday that he<br>\nhas resigned over the apology and the decision to suspend an<br>\neditor and two journalists who had worked on the story.
