        "content": "<p>Edi Waluyo elected chairman<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): City Council Speaker Edi Waluyo was elected as<br>\nChairman of the Indonesian City Councillors Association on<br>\nThursday.<\/p>\n<p>The association, an umbrella for the councillors from the<br>\ncountry's 26 provinces, will function as a communication forum,<br>\nespecially to discuss issues on regional autonomy.<\/p>\n<p>During the three-day congress, which was opened by Minister of<br>\nHome Affairs and Regional Autonomy Surjadi Sudirdja on Wednesday,<br>\nMaluku Council Speaker Saud Purwa, East Kalimantan Council<br>\nSpeaker Sukardi Jarwoputro and Riau Council Speaker Chaidir were<br>\nelected as deputies to the association chairman.<\/p>\n<p>Edi told the media upon his election that the association was<br>\nimportant as a forum to discuss problems that may arise following<br>\nthe implementation of Law No. 22\/1999 on Regional Autonomy, next<br>\nJanuary.<\/p>\n<p>The congress is slated to end on Friday.
