The energy transition is not merely an option, but a necessity and a\ncomponent of the national development strategy to strengthen energy\nsecurity in facing the climate crisis.<\/p>\n
This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the MPR RI, Eddy Soeparno,\nduring his keynote speech at the launch of the documentary film \u2018Energy\nfor the Nation\u2019 at the Asrul Sani Theatre, Trisno Soemardjo Building,\nTaman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), Jakarta, on Tuesday (1\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n
Eddy stated that this documentary film could serve as an effective\nmedium to increase public understanding and awareness regarding the\nimportance of transitioning from fossil fuels to Clean and Renewable\nEnergy (EBT).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe energy transition is a necessity for us because it can directly\nassist and support our programme to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to\nimprove air quality and pollution levels, in order to reduce and control\nthe climate crisis we are currently facing,\u201d said Eddy on Wednesday\n(2\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n
Eddy noted several positive developments in the global energy\ntransition. One of these is the strengthening of the energy transition\nas a global movement and the increasing competitiveness of renewable\nenergy costs.<\/p>\n
He mentioned that the price of solar panels has decreased\nsignificantly compared to ten years ago. Developments in battery\ntechnology and electric vehicles are also seen as opening opportunities\nto accelerate the energy transition.<\/p>\n
However, Eddy warned that the world still faces the challenge of a\n\u2018disorderly energy transition\u2019. On one hand, investment in renewable\nenergy continues to increase, but on the other hand, fossil fuel\ndevelopment is still occurring on a large scale.<\/p>\n
\u201cChina is developing the highest volume of coal-fired power plants in\nthe world. However, China is also developing renewable energy sources,\nsuch as solar and wind. Consequently, China is currently the country\nwith the largest solar and wind capacity in the world,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
Eddy views the energy transition as a potential new economic\nopportunity for Indonesia. The development of renewable energy is\nconsidered to have the potential to create investment, green industries,\nand green jobs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis energy transition is one of our development strategies.\nTherefore, we must implement it, not just as a decarbonisation effort,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Eddy added that the energy transition is also in line with the\nconstitutional mandate, specifically Article 33, Paragraph 4 of the 1945\nConstitution of the Republic of Indonesia, which emphasises the\nprinciples of sustainable and environmentally conscious economic\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, we are not just talking about performing an energy transition or\npreventing climate change or the climate crisis, but we must implement\nit consistently,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n
Eddy expressed hope that through the documentary film \u2018Energy for the\nNation\u2019, a wider audience could be reached to encourage more people to\nunderstand the challenges and opportunities within the energy\ntransition.<\/p>\n
