        "content": "<p>Deputy Speaker of the People\u2019s Consultative Assembly (MPR) from the\nNational Mandate Party (PAN) faction, Eddy Soeparno, held a High-Level\nDialogue with professors and academics from the Gadjah Mada University\n(UGM) Centre for Energy Studies. The event aimed to gather various\nstrategic inputs and recommendations regarding the strengthening of\nnational energy security, the acceleration of the energy transition, and\nthe decarbonisation process in Indonesia. During the discussion, Eddy\nconveyed his views on the importance of national security, the energy\ntransition, and Indonesia\u2019s decarbonisation commitment, which must go\nhand in hand with high economic growth targets. Eddy also received\nvarious strategic inputs from UGM academics concerning the importance of\nharmonising national energy policy, accelerating the development of new\nand renewable energy, strengthening research and technological\ninnovation, building energy infrastructure, regulatory reform,\ndeveloping the carbon economy, and providing financing schemes capable\nof attracting green investment. According to Eddy, input from academics\nis crucial to ensure Indonesia\u2019s energy policy is responsive to current\nchallenges while also capable of meeting the nation\u2019s long-term needs.\n\u201cThis forum enriches our perspective that the urgency of energy security\nis equal to that of national security. A country unable to guarantee its\nenergy supply will face risks to economic stability, industrial\ncompetitiveness, and even national sovereignty,\u201d Eddy said. The Doctor\nof Political Science from the University of Indonesia stated that\naccelerating the energy transition requires synergy between the\ngovernment, the business sector, financial institutions, and\nuniversities. According to Eddy, universities have a strategic role in\nproviding evidence-based policy research, technology development, and\npreparing human resources capable of meeting the needs of the energy\nsector transformation. \u201cIndonesia needs science-based energy policy.\nTherefore, I greatly appreciate the various inputs from UGM professors\nand academics who provided a comprehensive perspective on strengthening\nenergy security, strategies for accelerating the energy transition, and\nconcrete steps towards national decarbonisation,\u201d Eddy said. According\nto Eddy, Indonesia must become a policy-shaper by utilising its\ncomparative advantages. This can be realised through the development of\npalm-based bioenergy and biomass, accelerating electrification, building\nlarge-scale solar power plants, developing carbon capture and storage,\nand utilising nuclear technology as a low-carbon baseload power source\nin the long term. \u201cIndonesia has all the prerequisites to become a\nglobal clean energy powerhouse. What we need now is the courage to make\ndecisions, policy consistency, and close collaboration between the\ngovernment, universities, the business sector, and society,\u201d Eddy\nexplained. \u201cEnergy security must be placed as an integral part of\nnational security. Just like food and defence, energy is the foundation\nfor economic growth, social stability, and national sovereignty,\u201d he\ncontinued. Eddy added that the energy transition agenda must therefore\nbe accelerated through consistent policies, investment support,\ntechnological mastery, and collaboration among all stakeholders.
