Therefore, its true success lies in reducing price\ndisparities.<\/p>\n<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - An economist from the Centre of Reform on\nEconomics (CORE) Indonesia, Dipo Satria Ramli, believes that the Merah\nPutih Village\/Sub-district Cooperatives (Kopdes) need to prove they can\nshorten distribution chains and stabilise commodity prices at the\nvillage level as a measure of success during their initial operational\nphase.<\/p>\n<p>This statement was made in response to the inauguration of\napproximately 1,000 Kopdes Merah Putih units in Central Java and East\nJava last month, as well as the government\u2019s target to operate between\n20,000 and 30,000 cooperatives by August 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to ANTARA in Jakarta on Friday, Dipo stated that the\neffectiveness of Kopdes should not be measured by the number of\ncooperatives inaugurated or operational, but rather by the economic\nimpact felt by the community.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that one indicator used to assess the success of Kopdes\nis its ability to reduce price disparities at the local level. This\naligns with the objective of establishing Kopdes, which is expected to\nshorten the distribution chain that has traditionally involved numerous\nintermediaries or middlemen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe indicator for the first few months\u2026 is the effect on local price\nstabilisation.
