Economic resurrection depends on unity<\/p>\n
On the occasion of a meeting of the Indonesian Chamber of
\nCommerce and Industry (Kadin) during which a new Kadin chairman
\nwas appointed, this daily wants to reaffirm that our success in
\nbringing Indonesia out of the economic crisis depends on the
\nbusiness sector's seriousness in doing its best, including the
\ncreation of job vacancies for unemployed people trapped in
\npoverty.<\/p>\n
It is undeniable that the business sector plays an important
\nrole in building democracy in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
We are not satisfied with efforts made by the Indonesian
\nbusiness sector, as a \"vested-interest\" economy continues to
\ndominate it.<\/p>\n
We know that a vested-interest economy is prone to corruption
\nas it does not rely on special skills or know-how but merely an
\nability to lobby certain figures. Experience has taught us that
\nin the long run a vested-interest economy will simply result in a
\nhigh-cost economy.<\/p>\n
We thus hope that Kadin members will have the courage to take
\naction against businesspeople who depend on a vested-interest
\neconomy. The economy in future should be based
\non professionalism.<\/p>\n
An economy's success cannot be gauged only by profitability
\nbut by how far it has improved the people's welfare.<\/p>\n
This nation will continue to develop if the welfare of all its
\ncomponent parts continues to increase. Indonesia will experience
\nan economic resurrection if all people, not only a few, are
