Economic reform plus<\/p>\n

A clean government that commands respect is the dream of the
\nentire Indonesian nation, a people with a strong sense of
\nmorality and ethics. Efforts must continue to be made to see such
\na government become a reality.<\/p>\n
We must be able to cure ourselves of the social disease of
\nhaving a corrupt mentality, as from this dishonesty, corruption,
\nnepotism and the like stem. We have tarnished the image and the
\nauthority of the government and bureaucracy.<\/p>\n
Rhetoric alone will not suffice to eradicate collusion,
\ncorruption, nepotism and power abuse practices. Concrete measures
\nin political, economic, legal and moral areas must be taken.<\/p>\n
Problems related to corrupt mentality and nepotism are now
\nbeing intensely spotlighted both by our own people and by the
\ninternational community. Therefore, collusion, corruption and
\nnepotism are some of the factors responsible for fragile national
\neconomic system. After undergoing the economic crisis for some
\ntime now we may all come to the awareness that the solution to
\nthe economic and monetary crisis is none other than an economic
\nreform plus (encompassing, namely, economic, political, legal and
\nmoral areas). This is an appropriate way to improve the
\nsituation.<\/p>\n
An economic reform requires that the government should be open
\nand transparent as it will be the only key to solving a crisis
\nfor a state established on the pillars of democracy. There must
\nbe openness and transparency in all sectors, including in the
\nfinancial and banking sector, and there must also be easy access
\nto good and correct information. In this way, the community will
\nnot only place greater trust in the government but also will be
\nbetter able to detect problems as soon as they arise.<\/p>\n
In my opinion, the word reform means improvement. So a reform
\nrequires improvement in all sectors in a way that is both
\nrational and legally as well as morally accountable.<\/p>\n
I also wish to take this opportunity to appeal to university
\nstudents that they should come to terms with national and state
\nproblems in a wiser and more mature manner. They also should
\nprepare a good agenda of reform, one that they can present to the
\nlegislative and executive parties without violating our
\nconstitution and laws otherwise this lofty struggle will be
\ndisadvantaged.<\/p>\n
