Efforts must continue to be made to see such
a government become a reality.

We must be able to cure ourselves of the social disease of
having a corrupt mentality, as from this dishonesty, corruption,
nepotism and the like stem. We have tarnished the image and the
authority of the government and bureaucracy.

Rhetoric alone will not suffice to eradicate collusion,
corruption, nepotism and power abuse practices. Concrete measures
in political, economic, legal and moral areas must be taken.

Problems related to corrupt mentality and nepotism are now
being intensely spotlighted both by our own people and by the
international community. Therefore, collusion, corruption and
nepotism are some of the factors responsible for fragile national
economic system. After undergoing the economic crisis for some
time now we may all come to the awareness that the solution to
the economic and monetary crisis is none other than an economic
reform plus (encompassing, namely, economic, political, legal and
moral areas). This is an appropriate way to improve the
situation.

An economic reform requires that the government should be open
and transparent as it will be the only key to solving a crisis
for a state established on the pillars of democracy. There must
be openness and transparency in all sectors, including in the
financial and banking sector, and there must also be easy access
to good and correct information. In this way, the community will
not only place greater trust in the government but also will be
better able to detect problems as soon as they arise.

In my opinion, the word reform means improvement. So a reform
requires improvement in all sectors in a way that is both
rational and legally as well as morally accountable.

I also wish to take this opportunity to appeal to university
students that they should come to terms with national and state
problems in a wiser and more mature manner. They also should
prepare a good agenda of reform, one that they can present to the
legislative and executive parties without violating our
constitution and laws otherwise this lofty struggle will be
disadvantaged.

RUKMANA

Bandung, West Java
",
