        "content": "<p>EC helps RI curb deforestation<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: Minister of Forestry Malam Sambat Kaban is scheduled <br>\nto launch a joint project between the European Commission (EC) <br>\nand Indonesia aimed at tackling deforestation in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The EC will donate 16,746,000 euro to finance the five-year <br>\nproject until 2010, while Indonesia will contribute only <br>\n1,765,000 euro, a statement from Kaban's office said on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The project is aimed at pushing and supporting government <br>\nagencies, private sector companies and communities to help stop <br>\nor reduce illegal logging and forest management practices that <br>\nare against conservation principles.<\/p>\n<p>The financing agreement for the project was signed on March <br>\n30, and will be carried out in Jakarta, Jambi and West <br>\nKalimantan.<\/p>\n<p>The project is expected to improve law enforcement on <br>\nforestry, particularly concerning illegal logging, ensure <br>\naccountability and transparency, and enhance coordination between <br>\ndonors and international organizations in reforestation programs. <br>\n--JP<\/p>",
