East Timor faces power shortage<\/p>\n
NUSA DUA, Bali (JP): A power shortage may hit troubled East
\nTimor next month if no measures are taken to guarantee a supply
\nof fuel for the local power plant, a spokesman for PT PLN said.<\/p>\n
Erry Kusyranto, the spokesman for Bali, West Nusa Tenggara and
\nEast Nusa Tenggara said here on Wednesday that fuel stocks for
\nPLN's diesel power generator in Dili would last for only one
\nmonth.<\/p>\n
PLN workers who are from outside East Timor have left the town
\nin the past several days to avoid the chaos which has come after
\na majority of East Timorese voted for independence in the recent
\nballot organized by the United Nations.<\/p>\n
Ery said PLN power generators in East Timor were now being
\noperated by local residents.<\/p>\n
Ery said PLN operates a nine megawatt (MW) diesel power
\ngenerator in Dili.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the president of state oil and gas company,
\nPertamina, Martiono Hadianto, said Pertamina had supplied enough
\nfuel to East Timor but the company was facing difficulties in its
\ndistribution due to security problems.<\/p>\n
Pertamina has supplied the fuel to various fueling stations in
\ntown but no stations were open due to the security problems,
\nMartiono said on the sidelines of the Indonesian International
\nOil and Gas Exhibition and Conference. (jsk)<\/p>",
