The Drug Investigation Director has been\nsuspended together with six of his members,\u201d said the Head of Public\nRelations of the East Nusa Tenggara Police, Senior Commissioner Hemry\nNovika Chandra, in a statement to CNNIndonesia.com on Saturday (14\nMarch).<\/p>\n<p>Hemry stated that Senior Commissioner ATB\u2019s suspension from office\nrepresented a firm step by the East Nusa Tenggara Police Chief to\nmaintain the integrity and reputation of the institution by strictly\nprocessing officers suspected of serious violations.<\/p>\n<p>Hemry explained that Senior Commissioner ATB was suspended on\nsuspicion of abusing his authority by extorting two suspects in a health\ncrime case involving the distribution of illegal substances known as\npoppers. \u201cThe officer, together with six investigative personnel,\nallegedly conducted extortion against two suspects with initials SF and\nJH, with transaction values reaching 375 million rupiah,\u201d Hemry\nclarified.<\/p>\n<p>Besides Senior Commissioner ATB, six other Drug Investigation\nDirectorate members who have been suspended include Captain HSB, First\nInspector BB, First Inspector OT, Brigadier AI, Lance Brigadier LBM, and\nPolice Private JG.<\/p>\n<p>Hemry stated that the case of extortion and abuse of authority by\nSenior Commissioner ATB and his six members began between March and July\n2025, when the Drug Investigation Directorate of the East Nusa Tenggara\nPolice was developing a case involving alleged health crimes related to\nthe distribution of illegal poppers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the investigation process, allegations of abuse of authority\nemerged involving a middle-ranking officer with initials ATB (Drug\nInvestigation Director) together with six other members,\u201d said\nHemry.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the alleged illegal practice reportedly occurred\nthrough modes of asset negotiation and exploitation of the suspects\u2019\ndetention period, which took place in East Java regions as well as\nwithin the East Nusa Tenggara Police headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>According to Hemry, the East Nusa Tenggara Police will not tolerate\nany violations committed by its members. \u201cThe East Nusa Tenggara Police\nis committed to taking firm action against any violations committed by\nofficers. The enforcement of discipline and ethical codes is conducted\nprofessionally, transparently, and accountably to maintain public trust\nin the police institution,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>The East Nusa Tenggara Police also called on the public to remain\ncalm and trust the ongoing legal process. This firm step is expected to\nsend a strong message that the police continue to reform and will not\nprovide space for abuse of authority, in order to realise clean,\ntransparent, and just law enforcement services in the East Nusa Tenggara\nregion.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate statement, the Head of Professional Standards and\nSecurity of the East Nusa Tenggara Police, Senior Captain Muhammad Andra\nWardhana, emphasised that his office has taken swift action by\nconducting intensive examinations of all personnel suspected of\ninvolvement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Professional Standards division of the East Nusa Tenggara Police\nhas conducted preliminary examinations of personnel suspected of\ninvolvement and has gathered supporting evidence, including regarding\nfund flows allegedly related to this case,\u201d said Senior Captain Muhammad\nAndra Wardhana.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that preliminary examinations have been conducted\nagainst several personnel, namely Captain HSB, First Inspector BB, First\nInspector OT, Brigadier AI, Lance Brigadier LBM, and Police Private JG.\nAdditionally, several items of evidence related to fund flows have been\nsecured as part of the internal investigation process.<\/p>\n<p>Andra stated that as a demonstration of commitment to transparency\nand objectivity, the East Nusa Tenggara Police has also coordinated with\nthe Police Professional Standards and Security Division to conduct\nfurther examinations of the middle-ranking officer suspected of\ninvolvement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo ensure objectivity in handling the case, the officer in question\n(Senior Commissioner ATB) has currently been suspended from his position\nas Director of Drug Investigation of the East Nusa Tenggara Police and\nis undergoing examination at the Police Professional Standards and\nSecurity Division,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that based on the results of the examination, the East Nusa\nTenggara Police will also hold a special case conference with the Police\nProfessional Standards and Security Division to determine the legal\nstatus of Senior Commissioner ATB and six other members suspected of\ninvolvement in the case.<\/p>\n<p>If found to have violated the Police Professional Code of Ethics as\nregulated in Police Regulation Number 7 of 2022, the officers in\nquestion may face strict sanctions, including dismissal without honour\n(PTDH).<\/p>",
