East Java issues circular on annual bonus<\/p>\n
SURABAYA, East Java: In observance of the Idhul Fitri holidays
\non Dec. 16-17, 2001 and Christmas, Governor Iman Utomo issued a
\ncircular on Nov. 13, 2001, regulating that employers pay a one-
\nmonth salary as an annual bonus to their workers.<\/p>\n
"Besides the obligatory annual bonus, employers are also
\ncalled on to provide basic commodities packages and
\ntransportation payments for their workers," he said here on
\nFriday.<\/p>\n
Muhammad Djaelani, chief of the local manpower and
\ntransmigration ministry office, said that the governor also
\nregulated that the annual bonus should be paid at least seven
\ndays before the religious celebrations.<\/p>\n
"Muslim workers should receive the annual bonus seven days
\nbefore Idhul Fitri while Christian workers should receive it
\nseven days before Christmas," he said.<\/p>\n
Djaelani said the provincial administration was yet to
\nannounce the monthly minimum wages in the province because of
\nnegotiations between local labor unions, the local branch of the
\nIndonesian Employers Association and the local government was
\nstill under way.<\/p>\n
The present regional monthly minimum wages in the province are
\nbetween Rp 441,000 (US$44.1) and Rp 453,000 ($45.3). --Antara<\/p>",
