        "content": "<p>East Java issues circular on annual bonus<\/p>\n<p>SURABAYA, East Java: In observance of the Idhul Fitri holidays<br>\non Dec. 16-17, 2001 and Christmas, Governor Iman Utomo issued a<br>\ncircular on Nov. 13, 2001, regulating that employers pay a one-<br>\nmonth salary as an annual bonus to their workers.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Besides the obligatory annual bonus, employers are also<br>\ncalled on to provide basic commodities packages and<br>\ntransportation payments for their workers,&quot; he said here on<br>\nFriday.<\/p>\n<p>Muhammad Djaelani, chief of the local manpower and<br>\ntransmigration ministry office, said that the governor also<br>\nregulated that the annual bonus should be paid at least seven<br>\ndays before the religious celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Muslim workers should receive the annual bonus seven days<br>\nbefore Idhul Fitri while Christian workers should receive it<br>\nseven days before Christmas,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Djaelani said the provincial administration was yet to<br>\nannounce the monthly minimum wages in the province because of<br>\nnegotiations between local labor unions, the local branch of the<br>\nIndonesian Employers Association and the local government was<br>\nstill under way.<\/p>\n<p>The present regional monthly minimum wages in the province are<br>\nbetween Rp 441,000 (US$44.1) and Rp 453,000 ($45.3). --Antara<\/p>",
