        "content": "<p>Banyuwangi \u2014 East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has stated\nthat the province has become the nation\u2019s highest contributor of maize,\nwith this achievement realised through collaboration amongst various\nparties, including the Scouting Movement (Gerakan Pramuka), which has\nstrengthened the national food security programme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEast Java has already surpassed food security and is now moving\ntowards food sovereignty. This is thanks to the collaboration of all\nparties,\u201d she said during the fourth-quarter maize harvest at Green Farm\nin Karangsari Village, Sempu District, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java, on\nSaturday.<\/p>\n<p>Khofifah revealed that East Java\u2019s production of shelled dry maize in\n2025 reached 4.8 million tonnes, nearly double that of Central Java,\nwhich ranked second with 2.8 million tonnes, followed by North Sumatra\nwith 1.3 million tonnes.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, East Java\u2019s contribution to national maize\nproduction approaches 30 per cent, meaning nearly one-third of\nIndonesia\u2019s shelled dry maize demand is supplied by East Java\nfarmers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI appreciate the support from all parties, from the Regional Police\nCommander of East Java, the Banyuwangi Regent, to the Scouting Movement\nacross East Java, which has contributed to strengthening food security\nin the region,\u201d Khofifah said.<\/p>\n<p>East Java Regional Police Commander Irjen Pol Nanang Avianto, who\nalso attended the harvest event in Banyuwangi, stated that increased\nmaize production must be accompanied by quality improvements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing forward, we will strengthen marketing support so that it has a\ndirect impact on farmers\u2019 welfare,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani said his regency consistently\nrecords maize surplus. In 2025, maize production reached 250,596.81\ntonnes, up 19 per cent from 209,078 tonnes in 2024, whilst local demand\nstands at 69,842.31 tonnes, leaving Banyuwangi with a maize surplus of\n180,754.50 tonnes in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to maize, Ipuk noted that Banyuwangi\u2019s rice production\nalso consistently generates surplus. In the same year of 2025, rice\nproduction in the regency reached 546,923.81 tonnes, up 7 per cent from\nthe previous year, with a surplus of 383,258.03 tonnes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlhamdulillah Banyuwangi always records surplus; I am proud of the\nhard work of all parties, from farmers to local government and police\nand military personnel. May this harvest bring blessing and new spirit\nto continue increasing production,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The maize harvest at Green Farm in Banyuwangi is the result of\nplanting maize across 50 hectares in November 2025, with average maize\nproduction reaching 8\u201310 tonnes per hectare.<\/p>",
