        "content": "<p>East Java back to 6-day week<\/p>\n<p>SURABAYA: All East Javanese regencies and mayoralties, apart<br>\nfrom the Surabaya mayoralty, will return to a six-day working<br>\nweek as of Dec. 1, a local official said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The decision will end the trial five-day working week which<br>\nEast Java and other provinces started early this year.<\/p>\n<p>Abdul Hamid, the deputy governor in charge of administrative<br>\naffairs, said the state minister of administrative reforms had<br>\nrejected the provincial administration&apos;s proposal for a shorter<br>\nworking week for efficiency reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Hamid said although the central government had endorsed the<br>\nSurabaya mayoralty&apos;s five-day week, it required exceptions for<br>\ninstitutions like hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>A recent survey conducted by the Surabaya mayoralty showed<br>\nthat 62.7 percent of the respondents were pleased with the<br>\nshorter working week, 24.4 percent felt &quot;nothing unusual&quot; and<br>\nonly 9 percent were unhappy with it, Antara reported.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We hope the decision will not make other regencies jealous,&quot;<br>\nHamid said.
