        "content": "<p>Early warning system for PNG<\/p>\n<p>CANBERRA (AP): A network of seismological beacons will be<br>\ninstalled along Papua New Guinea&apos;s north coast as an early<br>\nwarning device against future tsunamis, the Australian government<br>\nsaid yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Australian scientists will travel to Papua New Guinea today to<br>\nbegin work with an international team of seismologists trying to<br>\nunderstand the cause of the disaster, Resources Minister Warwick<br>\nParer said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The seismologists will be assisting the Papua New Guinea<br>\nGeological Survey to install a network of seismographs at Wewak,<br>\nAitape, Vanimo and at Nuku, south of Aitape,&quot; Parer said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;These will be used to locate aftershocks which will highlight<br>\nthe source region of the magnitude 7 earthquake that triggered<br>\nthe destructive tsunami.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>A tsunami believed to have been caused by an offshore<br>\nearthquake struck the northwest coast of Papua New Guinea on July<br>\n17, destroying villages, killing 2,000 people and leaving<br>\nthousands more homeless.<\/p>",
