E. Timor University may be moved<\/p>\n
BANDUNG: The Rector of East Timor University, Theo T Balella,
\nsaid here on Monday that if conditions forced the closure of the
\nonly university in the province, then it should be moved to the
\nneighboring town of Atambua in East Nusa Tenggara.<\/p>\n
Theo said academic activities had been suspended until Sept.
\n20 due to the ballot, however he admitted that the situation may
\nnot be conducive to reopening the university.<\/p>\n
\"We are currently collecting data on the students and just
\nwhere they are,\" he explained.<\/p>\n
Established in 1986, the university has four faculties:
\nEconomics, Teaching, Social and Political Sciences, and
\nAgriculture.<\/p>\n
It currently has 4,000 students enrolled.<\/p>\n
He conceded that the gravity of the situation may force
\nstudents to move.<\/p>\n
\"I have proposed to the Minister of Education and Culture to
\nfacilitate students who need to move to other universities to
\ncomplete their studies,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"In fact if possible I hope East Timor University doesn't
\nperish, even in the transition period. Hopefully, if East Timor
\nbecomes independent it can move to Atambua.\" (43)<\/p>",
