Timor to have sugar mill<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): PT Putra Tunggal Sejati plans to develop a 60-<br>\nhectare sugarcane plantation in East Timor, with total investment<br>\nof around Rp 450 billion (US$190 million).<\/p>\n<p>Deputy head of the East Timor Investment Coordinating Board<br>\nBasyiruddin Yusuf said in Dili over the weekend the company would<br>\nalso set up a sugar mill in Natarbora and Viqueque to support the<br>\ndevelopment of the sugarcane plantation.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;According to the plan, the firm will employ 22,000 workers:<br>\n11,000 Indonesian workers and 11,000 foreign workers,&quot; he was<br>\nquoted by Antara as saying.<\/p>\n<p>The mill will produce 160 tons of sugar and 8,100 tons of<br>\nliquid sugar a year, all for the domestic market.<\/p>\n<p>He said the project, which was approved by the Investment<br>\nCoordinating Board last month, was expected to be completed in<br>\nthree years, following the approval.
