E. Indonesia and Australia<\/p>\n
Another step has been taken in Indonesian-Australian relations
\nwith the reaching of an agreement to form a working group to
\nprepare the setting up of an Australia-Indonesia Development
\nArea. Although it will take a considerable amount of time before
\nthis plan can be realized, it is to be hoped that the agreement
\nwill be a step forward in the two countries' economic relations.<\/p>\n
As far as eastern Indonesian is concerned, this cooperation
\nplan involving Australia will further spur the efforts to develop
\nthe areas that are still comparatively undeveloped. So far the
\nefforts to develop the areas have had little result.<\/p>\n
Naturally the government cannot do much without the support of
\nthe private sector. On the other hand there is not much the
\nprivate sector can do, especially in the provinces, without the
\ngovernment providing them with adequate facilities. The
\ngovernment and the private sector, then, at the center as well as
\nin the provinces, should sit down together and coordinate their
\nsteps in order that the greatest possible benefit can be reaped
\nfrom the planned cooperation scheme.<\/p>\n
Developing this region together will also help to reduce the
\nuncertainty between the two countries. People in bordering areas
\nwill be encouraged to learn to understand each other better. This
\nis important for both Indonesians and Australians as they work
\ntogether to achieve a brighter future for the Asia-Pacific
\nregion.<\/p>\n
