Dutch to partake in Electric expo

JAKARTA (JP): A Netherlands trade and energy mission will
partake in the Electric Indonesia '95 exhibition and will host a
seminar on energy here next week, Director of the Indonesian-
Netherlands Association Chris Smith said yesterday.

"The visiting mission, organized by the Netherlands Foreign
Trade Agency and the association, will have a Holland pavilion at
the trade fair and host the energy seminar entitled Indonesia-
Dutch Partnership at the Jakarta Kemayoran Fairground," Smith
said at a luncheon meeting at the Financial Club here.

The Dutch embassy's counselor, J.T.M. Vervloed, said that
government officials and business executives from 14 companies
will take part in the mission, led by Deputy Director General of
Energy Rens Knegt.

Electric Indonesia '95, which will take place from Nov. 22 to
Nov. 25, is the seventh of a series of power generation,
electronics and electrical equipment exhibitions.

Twenty three foreign countries will participate in the four-
day exhibition, which is slated to be opened by Minister of Mines
and Energy I.B. Sudjana.

Vervloed said that delegates of the mission will also hold
meetings with Indonesian government officials and executives of
the state-owned electricity company PLN and oil and gas company
Pertamina.

Netherlands Queen Beatrix led her country's largest trade
mission to Indonesia in August. During her 11-day visit, the
Queen was accompanied by her husband, Prince Claus, and more than
20 business people.

Her visit has since helped relations between Indonesia and the
Netherlands, particularly in the business sector. Relations
turned sour in 1992 after Indonesia decided to refuse Dutch
development aid because of perceived interference in Jakarta's
domestic affairs.

In trade with the Netherlands, Indonesia has long enjoyed a
surplus. According to the Dutch embassy, Indonesia's exports to
the Netherlands increased from 1.1 billion guilders (US$701.8
million) in 1991 to 1.8 billion guilders in 1994, while
Indonesia's imports from the country increased from 711 million
guilders to 779 million guilders.

The Dutch made investments of $96 million in Indonesia in
1992, $311 million in 1993 and $173 million in 1994.
