Dutch parliament to hold debate on Munir<\/p>\n

The Dutch parliament will have an emergency debate Tuesday on the
\ndeath of Indonesian human rights activist Munir, who died in
\nSeptember after he was poisoned on a plane en route from Jakarta
\nto Amsterdam, the environmental Groenlinks (Greenleft) party said
\non Thursday.<\/p>\n
Dutch Justice Minister Piet Hein Donner and Foreign Minister
\nBernard Bot will take part in the debate.<\/p>\n
\"There will be an emergency debate next Tuesday. We want the
\nDutch government also on behalf of the European Union to demand
\nan independent investigation\" into Munir's death from Indonesia,
\nFarah Karimi a lawmaker for the Groenlinks party told AFP.<\/p>\n
She explained that the Green party and the Socialist Party
\nalso wanted the autopsy report on Munir, done by Dutch doctors,
\nto be given directly to Munir's family.<\/p>\n
\"Mister Munir was a human rights activist and such people
\nshould get international protection,\" said Karimi.<\/p>\n
Indonesian police officers are currently in the Netherlands to
\ninvestigate Munir's death and Jakarta has asked the Dutch
\nministry of justice to help with the case.<\/p>\n
Munir, 38, was a dynamic activist who began work in the 1990s,
\nproviding legal counsel for victims of officially-sanctioned
\nviolence and repression during Soeharto's three-decade rule that
\nended in 1998.<\/p>\n
He was also one of the driving forces behind an investigation
\nthat exposed military involvement in human rights violations
\nduring East Timor's 1999 independence vote.<\/p>\n
According to the Dutch autopsy report he died of arsenic
\npoisoning.<\/p>",
