Dutch govt offers scholarships<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The Dutch government has offered scholarships for
\nIndonesian students to pursue higher education in the
\nNetherlands.<\/p>\n
Loek Hermans, the Dutch Minister of Education, Culture and
\nScience, said on Tuesday that the scheme was aimed at boosting
\nties between the two countries.<\/p>\n
Hermans said that under the Delta scholarship program, the
\nDutch government had allocated some 600,000 euros to pay tuition
\nfees and allowances for short-listed Indonesian students this
\nyear.<\/p>\n
The amount of funds earmarked for the program would reach four
\nmillion euros in 2005.<\/p>\n
Under the scholarships, the Indonesian students can pursue
\nhigher education courses in universities, colleges and research
\ninstitutes in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n
Currently, some 1,559 Indonesians are studying in the
\nNetherlands, compared to only 139 in 1997.<\/p>\n
Earlier on Monday, Hermans signed a memorandum of
\nunderstanding (MOU) with the Indonesian Minister of Education and
\nCulture, Malik Fadjar, for collaboration in the field of higher
\neducation.<\/p>\n
On the same day, he also signed an MOU with Minister of
\nResearch and Technology Hatta Radjasa for collaboration in the
