Drug squad cop faces hearing<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: A police disciplinary tribunal started hearing the
\ncase on Tuesday of Brig. Asep Sudirman, a member of the city
\npolice's narcotics unit, for allegedly stealing five grams of
\nshabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine) that was being stored as
\nevidence in a case.<\/p>\n
Asep, together with three other people -- Renaldi, Syahrir and
\nRohmat -- were arrested on July 2 by Kalideres police.<\/p>\n
The drugs were confiscated from a suspected drug dealer, Anto,
\nduring an operation at the Hotel Olympic in Taman Sari, West
\nJakarta, on June 1.<\/p>\n
Asep claimed he bought the drugs for Rp 2 million (US$224)
\nfrom Anto with his own money "to be used as bait to catch a big-
\ntime dealer in East Jakarta".<\/p>\n
His superior, Adj. Comr. Endang Sutisna, said the only mistake
\nAsep committed was buying the drugs without his consent. "He is a
\ngood officer," Endang testified during the hearing.<\/p>\n
