The Directorate of Drug Crimes (Dittipidnarkoba) of the Indonesian\nNational Police (Bareskrim Polri) has explained the arrest process of\ndrug convict Bayu Wicaksono, alias Encek, who had been on the run from\nthe Class IIB Sukadana Prison in East Lampung since 2024. Encek was\ncaptured during a sweeping operation conducted by Myanmar\nauthorities.<\/p>\n
Brigadier General Eko Hadi, Director of Drug Crimes at Barespol\nPolri, stated that Encek escaped from the Sukadana Class IIB Detention\nCentre on 21 April 2024. Following his escape, Bareskrim Polri issued a\nwanted person notice (DPO) on 11 September 2025.<\/p>\n
Encek\u2019s whereabouts were subsequently detected on 17 July 2026, in\nMyanmar, where he was detained by local authorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cMyanmar authorities, while conducting sweeps in the Myanmar border\nregion, secured one individual named Bayu Wicaksono, alias Encek, in\nTachileik, Myanmar,\u201d Eko said in a written statement on Monday\n(31\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
Eko noted that a team led by the Deputy Director of Drug Crimes,\nCommissioner Albert Raden Deddy Sulistyo Nugroho, along with the\nInterpol unit of the Indonesian National Police, departed for Myanmar on\n28 August 2026. They subsequently coordinated with Myanmar police to\nfacilitate Encek\u2019s return.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn 29 August 2026, the team from the Directorate of Drug Crimes and\nthe Interpol unit coordinated with the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon,\nMyanmar, and the Myanmar Police to process the repatriation of the\nfugitive Bayu Wicaksono,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
On 30 August, Myanmar police and immigration authorities handed Encek\nover to the Indonesian National Police Interpol team. He was\nsubsequently repatriated from Myanmar and arrived at Soekarno-Hatta\nInternational Airport at 17:55 WIB.<\/p>\n
Previously, the Directorate of Drug Crimes stated that Encek had been\ncaptured after being on the run from prison for two years. During his\nperiod of flight, Encek frequently moved through several Southeast Asian\ncountries.<\/p>\n
Investigations suggest that Encek did not merely hide during his\nescape. According to findings, Encek is suspected of remaining involved\nin controlling transnational narcotics businesses.<\/p>\n
