Drug abusers must be handled with care<\/p>\n
Drug abuse is widespread among students, and schools have
\nbecome a popular trading place for drugs. Students are a major
\ntarget of traffickers as they are easily \"challenged\" to try new
\nthings. A number of student scouts interviewed by The Jakarta
\nPost asserted that drug addicts must be handled with care by
\ntheir family and friends.<\/p>\n

\nSMU 112 in Daan Mogot, West Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Many friends of mine take drugs. I haven't abandoned them.
\nInstead, I often try to approach them in a bid to help them stop
\nthe habit.<\/p>\n
Family and close friends play the most important role in
\nhelping addicts resist their craving for drugs. The lack of
\nunderstanding of addicts' problems often contributes to the
\nworsening of their condition.<\/p>\n
In addition, the addicts themselves have to boost their self-
\nconfidence to quit the habit, because any treatment in a
\nrehabilitation center does not necessarily guarantee them from
\nrelapse. Besides, not all people can afford costly rehabilitation
\ntreatment.<\/p>\n
In a group discussion on drug abuse among students last week,
\nwe came to the conclusion that the distribution of drugs among
\nstudents could be curbed by halting the demand. If there was no
\nmarket for drugs, there would be no demand for it. It relies upon
\nthe students' solidarity to combat drug trafficking in schools.<\/p>\n

In my opinion, developing hobbies and interests is the only
\nway to prevent young people from consuming drugs.<\/p>\n
Most rehabilitation centers for drug abusers only reduce the
\nlevels of addiction, but don't manage to get patients to kick the
\nhabit. Some friends of mine have even become more addicted to
\ndrugs after receiving treatment.<\/p>\n
I have even seen a police officer take drugs.<\/p>\n
Any eradication of drug abuse encounters difficulties in its
\nimplementation by law enforcers, if like the police, they are
\ninvolved in drug dealing.<\/p>\n
Encep Ade, 16, is a high school student at Islamic high school
\nMAN 1 in Grogol, West Jakarta, and resides in Kapuk Muara, North
\nJakarta.<\/p>\n
I have a brother-in-law who is also an ex-drug addict. He
\nmanaged to stop his habit after his family sent him to an Islamic
\nboarding school for religious treatment.<\/p>\n
Rehabilitation centers and religious ones like Islamic
\nboarding schools (which offer treatment for drug addicts) are
\nstill important to cure them. Many young people use drugs as they
\nlike to be copycats. Without strong self-confidence and strong
\nfaith they will continue to become easy prey to drug dealers.<\/p>\n
In my opinion, drug addicts must be sent immediately to those
\nreligious centers before their addiction affects their peers.<\/p>",
