Residents of eight neighbourhood units (RT) living in the Nusantara\nCapital City (IKN), specifically in Karang Jinawi Village, Sepaku\nDistrict, Penajam Paser Utara Regency (PPU), East Kalimantan (Kaltim),\nare experiencing a clean water crisis due to drought caused by this\nyear\u2019s long dry season.<\/p>\n
Karang Jinawi Village Head Nur Yamansyah told Media Indonesia on\nThursday (20\/8) that the village has two hamlets with eight RTs, and all\nresidents in those RTs have been directly affected by the drought and\nare now facing a clean water crisis, a situation that has persisted for\nthe past month.<\/p>\n
He explained that around 80 percent of the village\u2019s residents\nnormally depend on clean water supplies from the river, while the rest\nuse absorption wells. However, due to the dry season, the river has\ndried up completely and residents\u2019 absorption wells are no longer\nproducing water.<\/p>\n
To meet their needs, residents who own motorcycles or cars are forced\nto fetch water independently from a nearby embung, or small reservoir.\nBut for residents from lower-middle income backgrounds who do not own\nmotorised vehicles, they obtain clean water by purchasing it.<\/p>\n
\u201cResidents buy one tank of clean water for Rp100,000 to meet their\ndaily needs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He noted that the burden on residents has now been eased thanks to\nassistance from several parties in the form of clean water distribution.\nThe aid has come from PT Itci Hutani Manunggal (IHM), the PPU Regional\nDisaster Management Agency (BPBD), the PPU Housing and Settlement Area\nAgency, and the Kalimantan IV Samarinda River Basin Office (BWS).<\/p>\n
\u201cAlthough we have received clean water assistance, the need for clean\nwater for all residents in the Karang Jinawi area is still relatively\nhigh and widespread. Therefore, we request that the relevant agencies\ncontinue distributing clean water to our area regularly throughout the\ndry season,\u201d he pleaded.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Head of the PPU BPBD, Nurlaila, said that water\ndistribution in Karang Jinawi Village is being carried out in eight RTs,\nfrom RT 01 to RT 08. The clean water distribution process is conducted\ndirectly to integrated tanks or storage facilities that have been\nprepared in each RT.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo date, the total water distributed has reached 11 trips, or around\n62,000 litres.
