'Drivers involved in thefts'<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Transportations Haryanto Dhanutirto
\nyesterday reminded companies which are shipping their products
\nfor export to investigate the background of their drivers.<\/p>\n
"Police investigations have shown that drivers belonging to
\nexporting companies were involved in cases of theft, " Haryanto
\ntold reporters after a meeting with Vice-President Try Sutrisno.<\/p>\n
Police over the past three weeks have arrested members of two
\ngangs suspected of having stolen over US$1.5 million in local
\nproducts bound for export.<\/p>\n
Police reported that a smooth system of cooperation
\nfacilitated the operation, which involved the masterminds,
\nseveral drivers of the container trucks, warehouse security
\nguards and also the group which provides the trucks to transport
\nthe stolen goods, and also the fence who accepts the stolen
\ngoods.<\/p>\n
Police said that the gangs generally conducted their
\noperations when the truck traffic into the Tanjung Priok port was
\nheavy.<\/p>\n
"It is impossible that the incident took place inside the port
\nsince the Tanjung Priok port is guarded for 24 hours," Haryanto
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
"The thefts have damaged the Indonesian exporters'
