Purwokerto (ANTARA) - The organising committee of the Drift Speed\nFest has declared its full support for the investigation by the Banyumas\nMunicipal Police (Polresta) into the collapse of the VIP grandstand at\nthe Drift Speed Fest event at the Satria Sports Complex in Purwokerto,\nBanyumas Regency, Central Java.<\/p>\n
At a press conference in Purwokerto on Monday evening, the chairman\nof the organising committee, Yoshua Ernest Yonathan, said the committee\nalso took full responsibility for ensuring that all victims received the\nmedical treatment, assistance and support they needed.<\/p>\n
He also extended an apology to the victims and their families for the\nincident, which occurred on Sunday (26 July).<\/p>\n
\u201cWe offer our sincerest apologies. This is something we never\nexpected. We take full responsibility for ensuring all victims receive\nproper treatment, and we continue to coordinate with all relevant\nparties in the medical treatment and support of the victims and their\nfamilies,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said the celebration ceremony held before the incident was a\ncustomary part of a drifting championship.<\/p>\n
However, he said the incident was not related to the participants or\ndrifters, as they were merely following the schedule of activities\nprepared by the committee.<\/p>\n
He stressed that the incident served as an important lesson for the\ncommittee, particularly in reviewing the construction prepared by\nvendors for similar events in future.<\/p>\n
According to him, the grandstand collapsed after the entire opening\nceremony and prize-giving sequence had finished, meaning the parade and\ncelebration were not the fault of the drifters.<\/p>\n
Echoing this, the deputy chairwoman of the organising committee,\nPutri Danizar, said the parade and the distribution of merchandise were\ncustomary parts of a drifting championship and had been practised at\nnumerous previous events.<\/p>\n
Since the incident occurred, she said, the committee\u2019s main focus had\nbeen to ensure all victims received the best possible treatment.<\/p>\n
Putri said that after the evacuation process, she and the Banyumas\nRegent visited around 11 hospitals to meet the victims, deliver\napologies in person, record victims\u2019 identities, and ensure their\ntreatment and care needs could be met.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday (Monday, 27 July), the committee divided teams to accompany\nvictims at several hospitals, help with administrative matters, and\nmaintain communication with the victims and their families,\u201d she\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Another committee member, Rengga, said the committee had run the\nevent in accordance with prevailing regulations, including technical and\nsafety rules.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, he stressed that the cause of the grandstand\u2019s collapse\nwas still awaiting the outcome of the police investigation.<\/p>\n
He assured that all costs of treating the victims \u2014 from\nexaminations, surgery and medicines to hospitalisation and other medical\nprocedures \u2014 would be the committee\u2019s responsibility, so no costs would\nbe borne by the victims.<\/p>\n
As of Monday (27 July) evening, around 50 victims had been allowed to\nreturn home, whilst the remaining 40 or so were still receiving\ntreatment at several hospitals.<\/p>\n
