Draft on currency rules<\/p>\n
KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters): Malaysia has completed a draft on
\nregulating currency trading for discussion between ASEAN members
\nbefore submission to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the
\nnational Bernama news agency said on Saturday.<\/p>\n
It quoted Deputy Finance Minister Affifuddin Omar as saying
\nthe draft would be fined-tuned at a deputy finance ministers'
\nmeeting of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) in
\nManila next week.<\/p>\n
The draft will then be presented at December's ASEAN finance
\nministers meeting in Kuala Lumpur.<\/p>\n
The proposed regulations governed hedge fund activities and
\nthe need for transparency in currency trading, he told reporters
\nafter opening a seminar at a university in north Malaysia. He did
\nnot give further details.<\/p>\n
Affifuddin said central bank Governor Ahmad Mohamed Don would
\npresent the draft to other ASEAN member countries for their
\nviews.<\/p>\n
Malaysia has been calling for trading rules to be imposed on
\ninternational currency dealings after Southeast Asian currencies
\nand stock markets were undermined by a massive selloff since
\nJuly.<\/p>",
