Her suspicion\narose following the circulation of content that trivialises the dangers\nof using reusable gallons that have exceeded their usage period. \u201cTo be\nhonest, I see content that may have been ordered by one of the bottled\ndrinking water companies, where the content says that people should just\nrelax even though the reusable gallons have exceeded the permitted usage\nlimit,\u201d Novita said in a statement. Novita\u2019s statement comes amid a lack\nof public understanding about the health risks behind old reusable\ngallons. Many consumers are unaware that polycarbonate gallons have a\nusage limit. If this limit is exceeded, the risk of leaching or\nmigration of hazardous chemical compounds such as Bisphenol A (BPA) into\nthe drinking water becomes much higher. Novita assessed that the\nnarrative reassuring the public in the face of this real threat is very\nrisky. \u201cThis framing says, \u2018See, people are still calm.\u2019 This is\ndangerous. This is a dangerous alarm,\u201d she stressed. Meanwhile, based on\nan investigation by the Indonesian Consumers Community (KKI) in October\n2025, 57 percent of reusable gallons circulating in the Jabodetabek area\nhad exceeded their age limit. Some had even been used for up to 13\nyears. A polymer expert from the University of Indonesia, Professor\nMochamad Chalid, once explained that the safe usage limit for reusable\ngallons is ideally 40 refills or the equivalent of one year. Beyond\nthat, the risk of BPA migration becomes higher. Hundreds of scientific\nstudies have linked BPA exposure to health risks, including fertility\nproblems and cancer. Facing this situation, Novita questioned the role\nof the state and related institutions in providing proper education. She\nhighlighted the absence of official information that should be the\npublic\u2019s right. \u201cWho is responsible for socialising the safety of this\nbottled water to the public? Honestly, I have never seen any\nsocialisation regarding the use of this drinking water,\u201d Novita said.\nShe emphasised the weak supervision from relevant agencies such as the\nFood and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) and the National Consumer\nProtection Agency (BPKN). The DPR is urging that specific regulations be\nissued immediately and that supervision be tightened. The public has the\nright to safe drinking water and must not be allowed to become victims\nof industry promotional narratives that ignore health and consumer\nsafety aspects.<\/p>",
