The legislator emphasised that converting pledged investments into actual construction, employment, and value addition is critical amidst global economic volatility. He also highlighted the need for bureaucratic reform and better coordination to remove obstacles hindering economic momentum.

House of Representatives (DPR RI) member from the Gerindra faction,
Azis Subekti, is urging the government to accelerate investment
realisation and strengthen national productivity amidst global economic
uncertainty. Azis believes that Indonesia’s current economic challenges
are not limited to maintaining the rupiah’s stability, inflation, and
market confidence. More than that, the government must ensure that all
investment commitments can be promptly transformed into real economic
activity. “What must be safeguarded is not just the investment figures,
but the speed of their realisation. Investment commitments must quickly
move into construction, production, jobs, and added value,” Azis said in
a statement on Wednesday (1/7/2026). According to Azis, the July–August
2026 period should be viewed as a crucial momentum to produce early
indicators of economic growth. He stated that the government must
accelerate the resolution of major obstacles that have been slowing down
investment, ranging from licensing, land, financing, and energy, to
workforce readiness. He noted that the global market is currently moving
rapidly based on expectations. Therefore, the government needs to show a
clear signal that the domestic economy is still moving and the
productivity agenda is not losing momentum. “The market trades on the
future. Therefore, what the government must provide is certainty of
direction and proof that the real economic engine is starting to work,”
he said. Azis referred to this approach as the “Economy of Time”, a
perspective that places time as a crucial resource in development.
Within this framework, a nation’s success is not solely determined by
the size of its natural resources or capital, but by its ability to
convert time into productivity. He explained that the national economy
operates in three different rhythms: market time, policy time, and
productivity time. Market time moves the fastest, policy time requires
institutional processes, while productivity time works over the long
term through improvements in human quality, technology, institutions,
and work culture. “The state must be able to synchronise these three.
Otherwise, the market moves too fast, policy lags behind, and
productivity loses momentum,” Azis said. Azis also stressed the
importance of bureaucratic reform as part of the productivity strategy.
According to him, every administrative delay is not just a procedural
issue, but also means delayed production, jobs, state revenue, and
investor confidence. He encouraged the central and regional governments
to strengthen coordination so that strategic projects, industrial
investment, downstream processing, infrastructure, and the strengthening
of MSMEs can move faster. “A superior nation is not one that has more
time, but one that wastes the least of it,” Azis said.
",
