Jakarta \u2014 House of Representatives (DPR RI) Speaker Puan Maharani\naffirmed that President Prabowo Subianto has a vision to support\nPalestinian independence, speaking at the inaugural meeting of the\npost-Gaza conflict Board of Peace (BoP).<\/p>\n
Puan added that Indonesia continues to uphold its free and active\nforeign policy and to champion the independence of the Palestinian\npeople.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe the President already has a vision to support and\nimplement this free and active foreign policy in the context of\nPalestinian independence,\u201d Puan told reporters at the Senayan\nParliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Thursday, 19 February 2026.<\/p>\n
Puan stressed that the President\u2019s presence at international forums\nin the United States would not shift Indonesia\u2019s stance on the\nPalestine-Israel conflict.<\/p>\n
Separately, Puan noted that today\u2019s international cooperation\nframework is built upon shared norms and commitments, ranging from\neconomic standards that measure competitiveness and sustainability, to\nsocial values that uphold human dignity, through to the principles of\ndemocracy and human rights as the foundation of civilised politics.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn this context, development is not merely measured by growth\nfigures, but by the quality of human life and the social justice\nexperienced by the people,\u201d Puan said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause we live in an interdependent world, Indonesia must\nstrengthen its national resilience and competitiveness in order to\nmaintain a strong bargaining position within the global order,\u201d she\nadded.<\/p>\n
Puan explained that the beginning of 2026 has been marked by\nheightened tensions in international relations, both in the form of\narmed conflicts and the escalation of trade wars disrupting supply\nchains and slowing global economic growth.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government must optimise Indonesia\u2019s strategic position as\nPresident of the UN Human Rights Council and within the Board of Peace\nto make a tangible contribution towards resolving the humanitarian\ncrisis in Gaza and advancing the realisation of Palestinian\nindependence,\u201d Puan asserted.<\/p>\n
According to Puan, this is in line with the UN Charter and the\nmandate of the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution, under which Indonesia\nparticipates in establishing world order based on independence, lasting\npeace, and social justice.<\/p>\n
