The Secretary General of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Indra Iskandar, has assured that efficiency measures implemented in response to global fuel price volatility will not hinder legislative services, prioritising support for the performance of DPR leaders and members. These measures include savings on fuel for officials, regulated electricity usage with scheduled shutdowns after 6 PM, tightened official travel, and potential work-from-home policies on Fridays to cut operational costs, aiming to save approximately Rp1.5 billion annually on fuel. The initiatives underscore the DPR's commitment to accountable budget management amid economic challenges, while ensuring essential functions like bill discussions and public hearings proceed without interruption.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Secretary General of the Indonesian House of
Representatives (DPR RI), Indra Iskandar, has assured that efficiency
measures carried out within the DPR RI environment, in response to
global fuel price fluctuations that could burden the State Revenue and
Expenditure Budget (APBN), will not disrupt legislative services and
will continue to operate optimally.

According to him, there are three main focuses of efficiency
undertaken by the DPR RI Secretariat General (Setjen), namely savings on
fuel use for echelon I to III officials, regulation of electricity use
in the DPR building complex, and tightening of official travel.
Nevertheless, he assured that all these policies will not interfere with
services to DPR leaders and members.

“We assure that this efficiency will not impact services to the
Council. Support for the performance of the legislature remains the top
priority,” said Indra in a written statement received in Jakarta on
Tuesday.

He explained that this efficiency is a form of the DPR’s commitment
to maintaining accountable and responsible state budget management.

“This step is part of a collective awareness to manage the state
budget more efficiently amid global economic dynamics,” he said.

In addition, one policy that has been directly implemented is the
regulation of electricity use in the DPR RI complex. Starting at 6:00 PM
WIB, scheduled power shutdowns are carried out as part of energy-saving
efforts.

According to him, electricity usage has remained high even though
only a small portion of employees work at night. This affects overall
building operations, including the use of lifts and other facilities
that must remain active.

He stated that efficiency is also applied to the use of fuel for
official vehicles. The DPR RI Setjen targets savings of around Rp1.5
billion in one year from this policy. The reduction is achieved through
restrictions on the use of operational vehicles, including optimisation
of an RFID-based fuel control system.

He also opened the possibility of implementing a work-from-home (WFH)
policy on Fridays to reduce fuel use, particularly from employee shuttle
bus operations.

“If we implement WFH on Fridays, the shuttle buses won’t need to
operate. This certainly offers significant efficiency potential,” he
said.

On the other hand, according to him, the DPR RI Secretariat General
(Setjen) is also tightening expenditures for meeting activities. Meeting
provisions, especially for short meetings, are no longer permitted as
part of cost-saving measures.

Regarding official travel, he emphasised that efficiency is applied
selectively. Official travel without high urgency will be restricted,
while activities directly related to legislative functions will proceed
as usual.

“For activities with high urgency such as bill discussions or public
hearings requiring physical presence, we will still facilitate them.
However, those that can be done online, we will encourage to be
conducted virtually,” he said.

Besides that, he also stressed that the dynamics of DPR meetings
related to public interests cannot be rigidly limited, including in
terms of timing.

” Council meetings concerning public interests are highly dynamic in
timing and cannot be restricted. That remains our primary concern,” he
said.

With these efficiency measures, the DPR RI Setjen hopes to contribute
to maintaining national fiscal stability, while ensuring the
optimisation of the legislative institution’s performance in carrying
out its representation of the people.
",
